Adam Straus will introduce the artist to contemporary methods of image making. This workshop will start with charcoal drawing, progress through image transfer techniques, and use photos and various materials to expand the artist’s vocabulary.
With an emphasis on experimentation and freedom, Straus will take you on a journey of discovery and exploration. All this takes place in the historic Prellwitz studio at High House established in 1911 on Peconic Bay. Plein air is encouraged or anything else. Bring your paints. Paper and drawing tools as well as a delicious lunch provided both days.
Adam Straus is known for his majestic and luminous depictions of the sublime in his paintings, which are often saturated with a deep concern about social and environmental issues. His penetrating dark humor can transport the viewer to post-apocalyptic worlds and often offers a wry observation on how humans have altered the natural landscape. Work by Straus is in numerous museum collections including the Parrish Art Museum, Bridgehampton, NY; Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, NY; List Visual Center, M.I.T., Cambridge, MA. Straus lives and works in Riverhead, NY.
Join us for the Sherman Players production of the classic American musical Bye Bye Birdie. Sherman Players celebrates 100 years of community theatre this season!
From the time of the Stamp Act in 1765 through the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781, Connecticut’s seditious colonists used songs and hymns to foment rebellion, commemorate victory, and give thanks for preservation. Historical musician Richard Franklin Donohue will bring his spinet harpsichord to the Pardee-Morris House for a positively revolutionary performance, “What A Glorious Crash They Made,” on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 2 p.m. For weather updates check our Facebook/Instagram pages or visit newhavenmuseum.org.
“What A Glorious Crash They Made” features a collection of songs and hymns published in Connecticut during the American Revolution. Donohue will sing, sharing his original research and exploring the fiery repertoire that in the words of John Adams, “cultivated the sensations of freedom.”
Donohue searched historical newspaper databases to find original publications of songs that existed in Connecticut between 1768 and 1783. With newly composed lyrics for popular tunes, the songs demonstrate the anger, determination, and gratitude of Connecticut’s patriot population. The program will span the Revolutionary War years with selections like John Dickinson’s “Liberty Song,” William Billings’ “Chester,” Andrew Law’s “Middletown,” and popular British tunes with newer texts reflecting the cause of freedom.
Donohue develops programs that explore the space around what he calls “the swinging door that exists between history and music.” He believes that music from any period needs to be presented with careful consideration of historical context, instrumentation, performance practice, and linguistic detail. With pronunciation based on evidence left by Benjamin Franklin and Noah Webster, and accompaniment on a spinet harpsichord, Richard strives to create as authentic a sound as possible.
New Haven Museum thanks community partner WSHU 91.1 FM for supporting the 2026 summer season.

After his father’s unexpected death, pianist Adam Tendler received his inheritance as a literal wad of cash in a parking lot—an encounter that became the catalyst for an ambitious commissioning project. Inviting a wide-ranging group of composers and sound artists, Tendler asked each to respond to the idea of “inheritance,” resulting in a deeply personal yet universally resonant body of new piano works.
Woven into a single intimate program, these pieces explore lineage, memory, loss, and place, forming a meditation on how we confront the past while shaping the future. Featuring commissions by Devonté Hynes, Laurie Anderson, Missy Mazzoli, Nico Muhly, inti figgis-vizueta, and others, the program reflects a striking diversity of voices and perspectives.
Produced by Liquid Music, this project earned a 2026 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Classical Instrumental Solo and has been featured on “CBS Sunday Morning.”
