Painting and Mixed Media Workshop at Prellwitz Studio with Adam Straus
Adam Straus will introduce the artist to contemporary methods of image making. This workshop will start with charcoal drawing, progress through image transfer techniques, and use photos and various materials to expand the artist’s vocabulary.
With an emphasis on experimentation and freedom, Straus will take you on a journey of discovery and exploration. All this takes place in the historic Prellwitz studio at High House established in 1911 on Peconic Bay. Plein air is encouraged or anything else. Bring your paints. Paper and drawing tools as well as a delicious lunch provided both days.
Adam Straus is known for his majestic and luminous depictions of the sublime in his paintings, which are often saturated with a deep concern about social and environmental issues. His penetrating dark humor can transport the viewer to post-apocalyptic worlds and often offers a wry observation on how humans have altered the natural landscape. Work by Straus is in numerous museum collections including the Parrish Art Museum, Bridgehampton, NY; Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, NY; List Visual Center, M.I.T., Cambridge, MA. Straus lives and works in Riverhead, NY.
