CRITERIA: Artists (18 +) are invited to submit artwork for consideration for our exhibit, “Contrast: A Drawing Exhibition”! All styles are welcome. All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. References used in the creation of the submitted work must be the artist’s own, or copyright released for use in this work.

MEDIUMS: Limited to Black and white: graphite, charcoal, ink, pencil, or conte crayon

You may submit up to three (3) pieces of art for $25.

The Atelier presents Dr. Frederic Mendelsohn’s picturesque landscape scenes in a solo exhibition, opening Thursday, April 2 and running through Thursday, April 30.

Dr. Mendelsohn’s profound vision transcends a simple landscape view to uncover “unobvious” scenes. By using color symbolism and brushwork to mirror the stillness translates intangible feelings into visual elements. When a viewer engages with the resulting work, they aren't just seeing a scene; they feel the heat of a painted sun or the calm of a silent pond.
“I think of myself as a truth seeker. I want to create an original work that emulates Mother Nature in a painterly fashion, rendering art that captures the effects of atmosphere through color and light. My goal is to effortlessly paint what I envision in my mind’s eye.”

Dr. Frederic Mendelsohn, is a modern-day Renaissance man — neurologist, philanthropist, author, musician and artist. He is the holder of both a BA and MA degree as well as a MD, and is predominantly a landscape artist utilizing both oil and egg tempera paints. With over four decades of experience, Frederic has studied extensively with the Art Students League in NYC, The Art League of Long Island, New School University, and Marymount College, and is a proud member of the Long Island Museum Artist Guild as well as the Setauket Artist Group and the North Shore Art Guild.

In this workshop, movement and music combine to engage participants’ minds, body, and creativity in a supportive, social, and joyous class. Dance connects mind to body, develops strength, balance, and expression. Classes include live music and are led by Donna Kaz, a choreographer and movement artist who has trained with the acclaimed Dance for PD program.

No prior dance experience is necessary.

After-school art workshops are designed for children in grades K-5 to learn about artists, be inspired by works of art, and create their own artwork with teaching artist Wendy Gottlieb.

Mollie Ziegler Hemingway will discuss media coverage of the U.S. Supreme Court. She is the Editor-in-Chief of The Federalist, Senior Journalism Fellow at Hillsdale College, and a Fox News Contributor. She is a New York Times best-selling author of two books, and the author of the forthcoming "Alito: The Justice Who Reshaped the Supreme Court and Restored the Constitution".

Work out your bugaboos by making your very own therapy sock puppet – the perfect companion when you need an objective, non-judgmental ear to talk to. Master puppeteer Liz Joyce will lead you through the process of making an adorably understanding creature. Just bring a large sock – all other materials are included.

Liz Joyce’s artistic approach to puppetry has been influenced by European puppetry traditions and the eccentric energy of New York’s downtown performance artists. She honed her carving skills working with traditional puppet carvers in Prague, Czech Republic, and often collaborates with other puppeteers in the international puppet community.

Art Social is a monthly gathering where attendees participate in a supportive, judgment-free session of art/craft making and socializing. Bring your friends and expect to make new ones as you tap into your creative selves. Workshops will be led by experts in their practice, and the projects are designed to be easily and enjoyably accomplished by all skill levels.

Two singer-songwriters host two additional singer-songwriters every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Dunville’s LittlePub. We tell our stories in song and provide an encouraging environment for songwriters to ply their craft. Hosted by Erik Moses and Bill Dempsey

Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County will host Dave Shafer, who will discuss his long and productive career in high-tech optical design, relying on a blend of imagination and calculation to create new designs and inventions.  Shafer holds over 200 U.S. and foreign patents covering a wide range of optical designs.  His simplest was for a new kind of stereo viewer for Salvador Dali to go with the stereo painting that he had created.  Other designs were used for top-secret spy satellite cameras, a new way to detect Russian submarines, and a new type of telescope sent to Saturn.
