he Westport Library, in community partnership with Earthplace, invites you to find your own food out in the wild! Join plant-based chef and author Chrissy Tracey and Yard To Table podcasters Trevor Crafts and Ellen Scherer Crafts for a fun foraging walk at Earthplace. Discover nourishing foods growing right outside your door and learn how to transform them into everyday delicious meals with the guidance of an experienced forager — plus, you'll get to learn all about Tracey's debut cookbook Forage and Feast. Nature's pantry is calling!

In Forage & Feast, experienced forager and chef Chrissy Tracey takes you on a journey to discover and collect plants and fungi. Use the identification guides and nature photographs to help you forage, then cook your way through fall, winter, spring, and summer with recipes featuring the wild ingredients. No matter where you live, you’ll be able to find recipe inspiration and universally useful foraging advice. From urban magnolia blooms and easy-to-find dandelions to golden chanterelles and sweet pawpaws, Tracey shows you how to transform nature’s treasures into vegan recipes everyone will love.Interwoven with stories from Tracey’s own foraging and culinary experiences and accompanied by lush photography, Forage & Feast is the perfect introduction to finding food in the natural world and turning it into something both beautiful and tasty.

Chrissy Tracey is a first-generation Jamaican American vegan chef, artist, forager, YouTuber, and entrepreneur in the food and wellness space. She is the first vegan chef to be featured on Bon Appétit’s Test Kitchen YouTube series, as well as in their magazine. Her recipes and work have been featured in Epicurious, Farm Sanctuary Magazine, Veg News, Wall Street Journal, Cherry Bombe, and more. She has also been showcased on the Bon Appétit Food People podcast and NPR’s Seasoned. Tracey was listed in Connecticut Magazine‘s 40 Under 40 and made a name for herself while working as a vegan pizza chef in New Haven. Through her brand Eatwithchrissy, she specializes in curating unique culinary events across the US.

Hosted by Emmy Award winners Trevor Crafts and Ellen Scherer Crafts, Yard to Table introduces listeners to the couple's passion for cultivating a delicious life, one yard at a time. In each episode, they offer a delightful blend of practical gardening tips, mouthwatering recipes, and stories from fellow gardeners and food enthusiasts. Join Anthony Zemba, a certified ecologist with LandTech Consultants, on a bird walk along the Earthplace trails this Saturday morning! Bring your binoculars and see what we can discover out in the sanctuary.

May is the prime time to observe all of our feathered wildlife. We’ve had sightings of Scarlet Tanagers; Wood Thrush; Pileated, Red Bellied, Hairy, and Downy Woodpeckers; Indigo Buntings, Goldfinch, Orioles, and more!

We will meet at the front doors of Earthplace before the walk begins.

Spirituality is increasingly absent from everyday life, materialism is ascendant: the largest religious group in the USA is spiritual but not affiliated with any organized religion. We deal with the issues of spirituality: the soul, the mind, consciousness, the great unconscious entity underlying everything, with issues of art: labyrinth walking, dance, music, painting, sculpture, and with science: string theory, the microcosm and the macrocosm, the Big Bounce, the 26 real dimensional universe.

Participants will create their own pointillism artwork!

Arts in Mind is a free monthly program for individuals with Young-Onset Alzheimer’s or in the early stages of memory loss, along with their care partners. This online program connects close looking at art from the Gallery’s collection with art-making opportunities. Art supplies used during the session may include pencils, colored pencils, markers, crayons (oil pastels), watercolor set, sketch pad, copy paper, and notebook.

Join us for “Museum Movers,” a Bruce Museum yoga class for learners ages 3-6 and their grownups. Participants will explore the Bruce Museum’s galleries using a variety of sensory and experiential modalities, followed by an exhibition inspired yoga class. Museum Movers uses movement, breath, group games and creative activities to reinforce the gallery experience. Come have fun in our galleries and get to know the Bruce in a whole new way. Wear comfortable clothing and be ready to take your shoes and socks off! We have a limited number of foam mats, please bring your own mat.

Cost: Free with admission to the Bruce Museum. Members admission is free with membership. Reservations required.
