Regular gas prices in the Long Island and Lower Connecticut regions have soared from an average of $2.90 to $3.90 over the past month, according to AAA Northeast.

Gas prices across the region have surged more than 80 cents in just one month, far outpacing typical seasonal increases.

Connecticut tax officials announced on Wednesday that the state’s diesel fuel tax would increase by 9 cents a gallon on July 1. Republicans have responded by renewing their call for a special session to pass additional tax relief.

According to AAA, Connecticut's gas price average rose 21-cents over the past week to an all-time high of $4.89. The highest prices for gas were in Fairfield County at $4.96 per gallon.

New York could see a suspension of some gasoline taxes in the new state budget to help ease steeply rising gas prices linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The deal would cost $90 million and would be paid for out of the state’s budget surplus.
