Cuomo And Bellone Say No To Eastern Long Island Travel Ban

Office of N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone with Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2017.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says Governor Andrew Cuomo is not considering a travel ban to eastern Long Island, and neither is he.

A group that represents East End mayors and town supervisors says their hospitals and resources are overburdened due to visitors from parts of New York City.

Bellone says he understands their concerns, especially about understocked food stores.

“You have people rushing out to buy everything that they can. So that’s created more of a problem out there.”

Bellone says the coronavirus has been in the region for weeks without anyone knowing because tests were not available.

Some residents of Litchfield County, Connecticut, have also requested that its border with New York be shut down. The area, like eastern Long Island, are popular vacation spots for wealthy New Yorkers.
