Summer cicada invasion not as dramatic as expected

Habitat loss since 1996 made it difficult for some of Connecticut's seventeen year cicadas to come out of the ground this summer. Cicadas emerged closer to the central part of the state in wooded areas, where food was more available.

Commercial fisherman on Long Island, along with New York Senator Charles Schumer, are urging the Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers to speed up repairs on a navigation light at Jones Beach.


Malloy signs 2 energy bills into law

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy has signed two energy measures into law that increase natural gas use in homes and businesses and revamp Connecticut's renewable energy policy to boost hydropower from Canada.

It's summertime and on Saturday nights on Long Island there are demolition derbies.  Cars wrecking cars for the pure thrill of it.  WSHU's Charles Lane recently went to a "demo" at Riverhead Raceway and he found out Long Island is the legendary home of the demolition derby.  He brought back this audio postcard.
