Wesleyan University is the first school in Connecticut to require all students to receive a COVID-19 vaccine before arriving on campus in the fall.
The decision was made in a statement Monday that said students need to verify with the school that they are fully vaccinated. Students who have approved medical or religious exemptions are exempt.
The school said staff and faculty are “highly encouraged” to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Officials hope this would help the community achieve herd immunity and improve their chances of enjoying a more "normal" semester.
Nearby schools, such as the University of Connecticut, have also encouraged members of the school community to get vaccinated.
