LI Senator Charles Fuschillo resigns

AP

New York State Senator Charles Fuschillo resigned effective midnight Tuesday.  In a surprise statement posted to his web site, the 7-term Republican from Merrick says he will become CEO of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.  Fuschillo's departure leaves both the state senate and Long Island in a precarious situation.

Charles is senior reporter focusing on special projects. He has won numerous awards including an IRE award, three SPJ Public Service Awards, and a National Murrow. He was also a finalist for the Livingston Award for Young Journalists and Third Coast Director’s Choice Award.
