Connecticut Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Trans Athletes

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit over two transgender high school athletes in Connecticut.

The lawsuit came from three athletes who said they lost scholarships competing against two trans girls who almost always won. It targeted the state’s athletic conference and several local schools.

The lawsuit was filed more than a year ago, and the students involved have since graduated, so the judge said the issue is moot.

Elana Bildner is with the ACLU of Connecticut.

“Other states should take note that trying to use federal anti-discrimination laws to discriminate against trans kids is not only cruel, but it’s legally baseless,” Bildner said.

Lawmakers in other states cited the Connecticut case to support bills to ban trans athletes in their states. Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee are among them.

Davis Dunavin loves telling stories, whether on the radio or around the campfire. He started in Missouri and ended up in Connecticut, which, he'd like to point out, is the same geographic trajectory taken by Mark Twain.
