New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warns the increased COVID-19 positive test rate on Long Island could lead to more “yellow zone” restrictions in the coming days.

Riverhead and Hampton Bays received yellow zone designations this week to restrict mass gatherings, restaurants and schools.

Cuomo said other communities with increased infection rates, like Brentwood, could soon join them. He said some health officials project holiday travel will increase the infection rate by at least 20%.

“Long Island today has 3% positivity, goes to 18% positivity, " Cuomo said. "That's a problem.”

COVID-19 hospitalizations on Long Island increased almost 150% over the past three weeks. Hospitalizations in the rest of the state have increased 128%.
