Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has vetoed the Legislature’s amendments to her proposed $3.3 billion budget for 2021.

The Republican-led Legislature wants to pay off $75 million in debt now. Curran, a Democrat, had proposed restructuring about $400 million of debt. She had said that’s because of the uncertainty about how the pandemic will play out.

Republicans say their amendments are more fiscally conservative.

Democrats in the minority say they will block any attempt by Republicans to override Curran’s veto.
