The lawsuit says two gyms charged illegal dues and preventing members from cancelling subscriptions during the pandemic.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has sued the owner of two popular gyms for charging illegal dues and preventing members from cancelling subscriptions during the pandemic.

James says Town Sports International had told members of New York Sports Club and Lucille Roberts that they wouldn't be billed after COVID-19 cancellations, but charged people anyway.

Gyms were allowed to reopen in August, after months of shutdown orders. New York Sports Club filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September, following other gym companies like 24 Hour Fitness.
