The Connecticut Department of Public Health said it found serious violations at a nursing home in Norwich, where three residents died of COVID-19.
Twenty-one residents and five staff tested positive for COVID-19 during the outbreak at Three Rivers Nursing Home. The state found the facility didn’t use personal protective equipment properly, didn’t enforce a quarantine for a resident and didn’t maintain a listing of the status of residents, among others.
State Public Health Commissioner Deidre Gifford said the investigation uncovered systemwide failures in the nursing home that merited a finding of immediate jeopardy. That means Three Rivers has 10 days to tell the state how it plans to fix the issues.
The Health Department said it expects to take more action against the nursing home.
