A test for the coronavirus that uses saliva rather than a long swab up the nostrils may soon be available for widespread use.
The test, known as SalivaDirect, was developed at the Yale School of Public Health.
Hearst Connecticut Media reports the test could receive FDA approval by the end of this week.
A spokesperson for the project said the goal was to make a test for the virus that is simpler, faster and safer.
Results of the test will be available in less than three hours at a cost of one to four dollars per test.
