Suffolk County To Expand Efforts To Fight Housing Discrimination

Suffolk County plans to conduct more investigations into housing discrimination this year.

This is a result of a Newsday report that revealed how some Long Island real estate agents discriminated against minority homebuyers.

Suffolk County will partner with an organization to study housing providers and lending practices to make sure the rights of homebuyers are not violated.

The county will also hire more staff to examine housing violations and create additional training for real estate brokers that complies with state and federal fair housing laws.

Jay Shah is a former Long Island bureau chief at WSHU.
