A seasonal traditional concert at Stony Brook University features members of the University Orchestra, vocal soloists, and conductors in a performance of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, December 7 at 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall at Staller Center at Stony Brook University. Choruses from Part One and the Hallelujah Chorus will all be sung by the audience! Vocal scores will be available for purchase for $10 cash at the door.
Solo vocalists will include undergraduate, graduate and DMA students Shuqi Yang, soprano; Wanmei Zhang, mezzo-soprano; Yiran Xing, tenor and Philip Chen, bass. Conductors of the Messiah Chamber Orchestra are Susan Deaver and Hanbo Wang. Assisting with conducting are Anthony Jackalone, Chao-Chih George Chen and Anyi Cai. Zicheng Gu is the solo trumpet in “The Trumpet Shall Sound”.

The concert will also feature the University Orchestra’s Brass Ensemble and Festival Chamber Orchestra performing music of Corelli, Vaughan Williams and seasonal favorites to include the audience singing with conductors Zitian Lyu and Keaton Walsh and assisted by Karen Li.

Join us for a beloved Hotchkiss tradition! The Hotchkiss Chorus presents the 66th annual Festival of Lessons & Carols on Sunday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hotchkiss Chapel. Led by faculty member Jack Brown, with Joe Rose on the Chapel organ and Chaplain Jason Larson leading the service, the evening features classic a cappella carols, contemporary works by English and American composers, and a new setting of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” by student composer Jeff Gong. The audience is invited to sing along with favorite carols, and the night concludes with the candlelight singing of “Silent Night.” Free and open to all—come early to ensure a seat and enjoy this magical celebration of the season.

CHARIS HOLIDAY CONCERT CELEBRATES THE SEASON
Charis Chamber Voices celebrates the season with Rejoice!, its annual Holiday Concert: Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. at St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 10 Church Lane, Scarsdale, NY, and Sunday, December 14, at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, 178 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan, CT. Charis’s Artistic Director, Jeremy Wiggins, conducts, accompanied by the organist Terrence Flanagan. Benjamin Britten’s Festival Te Deum offers a striking, multi-layered treatment of this historic text, while his mystical Rejoice in the Lamb showcases his imaginative use of poetry and sound. Antonio Vivaldi’s radiant Gloria crowns the program with music as glorious and uplifting as the season itself, and Gustav Holst’s Christmas Day, a fantasy on familiar carols, carries on the holiday spirit. Charis’s famous wine and cheese reception will follow each concert. We look forward to sharing this unforgettable celebration with you! Tickets are $25 ($20 for seniors and $15 for students).
