Governor Andrew Cuomo said colleges in New York will be required to return to remote learning for at least two weeks if 100 cases of COVID-19 are diagnosed. Campuses will also have to close if 5 percent of the college becomes infected.
“We should anticipate clusters," Cuomo said. "When you have large congregations of people, anticipate a cluster. We know that. Also, that's what we're seeing. You see it around the country. Be prepared for it, get ahead of it.”
It’s the first time the state has set a threshold for when college campuses will be required to shut down, as thousands of students head back to class for the fall semester.
Students who live on campus would be able to stay in their housing during that time.
