The mass testing of Connecticut’s prison system that was completed this week shows 9% of inmates tested positive for the coronavirus.

832 inmates tested positive since May 13. But the Department of Correction says only two of those COVID-19-positive inmates showed symptoms.

Nearly 440 inmates, most from Osborn Correctional Institute in Somers, opted out of testing.

All of the inmates who tested positive were isolated for two weeks.

The wave of testing is in response to advocates calling for the release of inmates serving time for minor crimes and who are vulnerable to the virus.

An additional 510 inmates tested positive for COVID-19 between March and May. Seven have died.
