Nearly 10,000 New Yorkers may have moved to Connecticut since March amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Hearst Connecticut Media reports the New Yorkers made requests to the United States Postal Service to change their mailing address during that time.

USPS says it’s an unprecedented uptick in change-of-address requests compared to the same period in 2019, which saw about 1,200 requests.

The data reflects what real estate agents call a “mass exodus” of New York City residents to less populated, more spread out communities in Litchfield, Fairfield and New Haven counties, as well as on eastern Long Island.
