Here’s the latest on the coronavirus outbreak in the region:
- Connecticut will delay the reopening of hair salons and barbershops to align with Massachusetts and Rhode Island’s reopening in early June. They were originally scheduled to reopen tomorrow.
- Connecticut saw a drop in coronavirus deaths, with 41 reported. There were 697 new cases, a slight decline.
- In New York, just over 100 deaths were reported, a drop from previous days. There are 1,250 new cases statewide. 200 were on Long Island, 99 in Westchester County.
- Aerospace manufacturer Raytheon Technologies has announced a temporary 10% pay cut in the new fiscal year to reduce pandemic-related costs. That includes employees at its Connecticut subsidiaries: Pratt and Whitney and Collins Aerospace Systems.
- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has encouraged professional sports in the state to plan to return to play without spectators.
- Northwell Health will provide COVID-19 antibodies testing for MTA employees at no cost. That includes Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North workers.
The Town of East Hampton wants Gov. Cuomo to delay the reopening of "holiday" hotels and motels until Long Island is ready to reopen. Hotels have stayed open through the pandemic after they were classified as essential business, but the Hamptons beach community wants to prevent overcrowding from tourists expected after Memorial Day.
