An inmate at the Nassau County Correctional Center has tested positive for coronavirus.

Officials said the inmate came into the jail earlier this month and became symptomatic last week.

Anthony Boutin with Nassau University Medical Center said the inmate has been taken to a local hospital.

“Right now he’s actually being treated, isolation room, negative pressure, he’s being taken care of.”

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said the Department of Health has identified staff and other inmates who may have been exposed. She said all staff at the jail have been trained for events like this.
