Beto O’Rourke Speaks To Gun Control Advocates In Newtown

Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke spoke to gun safety advocates in Newtown, Connecticut, Wednesday.

O’Rourke appeared at a town hall-style event as a guest of Newtown Action Alliance, a group formed after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 20 children and six educators.

Heidi Alvarez approached O’Rourke for a hug after the event.

“I lost someone I loved dearly in the shooting. And I just miss her so much. And just having someone like him be the voice for the people that can’t speak anymore and be the voice for people who’ve lost loved ones, it just really means the world to me.”

During the event O’Rourke endorsed a national version of Ethan’s Law, the Connecticut law passed after the death of a 15-year-old Guilford boy, in response to a question from the boy’s father. The law requires guns to be locked away in homes with minors.

Davis Dunavin loves telling stories, whether on the radio or around the campfire. He started in Missouri and ended up in Connecticut, which, he'd like to point out, is the same geographic trajectory taken by Mark Twain.
