Uber will offer New Yorkers who need a ride to the polls a $10 discount over the nine-day early voting period.
Long Islanders who take an Uber to any of the 25 early voting locations can get the discount, as long as they enter the polling site’s address, and promo code “NYSVotes2019.”
State Senator Jim Gaughran says he hopes residents who can’t drive will take advantage of the discount.
“Particularly here on Long Island, not all the voting sites have access to mass transit, particularly many of our senior citizens do not really have the ability to drive themselves to vote.”
An Uber spokesperson says the company is “excited” to help ensure transportation is not a barrier for voters.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation into law in January to permit early voting.
The polls will be open from October 26 through November 3. Election Day is November 5.
