The MTA paid $1.4 billion in overtime to employees, but a new report says there is no way to guarantee they actually worked the extra hours.

MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny examined 75 of the highest overtime earners for the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North, New York City Transit and MTA Bus.

Her report stated that the MTA has no reliable attendance verification system for their employees.

MTA supervisors relied entirely on the honesty of employees to accurately report the amount of hours they worked.

The report made several recommendations including that overtime approvers be provided with information to verify overtime claims and to share this information with all levels of management.

The MTA said it agreed with the recommendations and is in the process of implementing them.
