A potentially disturbing new PSA from a Newtown, Connecticut-based advocacy group is drawing national attention.
The PSA from Sandy Hook Promise debuted on NBC’s “Today Show.” It appears to be an ad for back-to-school products like backpacks and binders but gradually takes a much darker tone as students react to a school shooting.
One scene shows a student using a skateboard to bust out and window and escape a classroom.
“My parents got me this skateboard I wanted. It’s pretty cool.”
Sandy Hook Promise was founded after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 students and six educators. The group offers training on how to recognize warning signs before potential school shootings.
Sandy Hook Promise has regularly released PSAs about gun violence. One PSA was nominated for an Emmy earlier this year.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Sandy Hook Promise won an Emmy for its PSA. It received a nomination.
