New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to visit Long Island on Monday to announce plans for a new train station at Belmont Park.
The new station would serve a proposed arena for Belmont Park. Long Island Business News reports both the station and the arena could be in operation by fall 2021 when the New York Islanders’ season kicks off.
The lack of full-time mass transit options at the new arena had been a sticking point for lawmakers and local residents.
Developers expect construction on the Islanders Arena will begin this summer, despite delays in the approval process.
Officials await a final environmental report that addresses traffic and transportation issues.
