Mugshots of Michael Valva and Angela Pollina taken Friday after their arrest for the murder of Thomas Valva.

The father of an 8-year-old Suffolk County boy who died last week has been charged with second-degree murder. His fiancée has also been charged. County Child Protective Services knew the boy suffered neglect in 2018.

Investigators say the child died last week after exposure to cold and food deprivation.

The Suffolk County Department of Social Services say they implemented safeguards when they became aware of the child neglect allegations in 2018. This included home supervision and parenting workshops.

Suffolk County police say NYPD Officer Michael Valva and his fiancée repeatedly physically abused the children in their home.

The couple are being held without bail.
