Connecticut officials are warning of major cuts to Medicaid in the state if the federal budget passes as proposed. The budget bill that passed the House earlier this week calls for $880 billion in cuts to the Energy and Commerce Committee, which funds Medicaid.

In Connecticut, the stage is set for final budget negotiations. The Senate Republicans announced their budget proposal on Wednesday and it includes $1.5 billion in tax cuts, the largest in state history.

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-CT, wants to provide additional aid for college students and their families. She is calling on House Republicans, who currently hold the majority, to continue funding programs like the Pell Grant.

The Connecticut State Colleges and University System expect a shortfall of $220 million dollars over the next two years. The finance and infrastructure committee discussed possible budget cuts at a meeting earlier this week.
