Sikorsky Airport In Bridgeport Will Commission Study For Expansion

Bridgeport’s Sikorsky airport will commission a $47,000 study of its potential to become the regional airport for Southwestern Connecticut.

Sikorsky and New Haven’s Tweed airport are both trying to receive state support to expand.

Sikorsky Manager Michelle Muoio said the primary goal of the study is to show the benefits of the airport to the city and region.

The competition between the two airports comes after Governor Ned Lamont’s transportation initiative last year, which allows only one airport to receive state money.

Officials for the Lamont administration said they are very interested in seeing the eventual findings.
