A rally in Bridgeport, Connecticut, this weekend took on a festive air when President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory was called minutes before it began.

Activist Callie Heilmann with Generation Now called the day a great day for democracy.

“We should all be celebrating the hard work that collective grassroots leadership across this country, led by black communities, working class, poor people, aligned across, that we collectively organized to make this happen,” Heilmann said.

Activists say the next step is change on a local level — including police reform in a city whose police chief was arrested in September for rigging his own hiring process.
