The Inspector general of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority found that little has changed in the agency’s handling of high overtime rates since 2019.
Last year, a government watchdog uncovered rampant overtime abuse after a payroll report found that the MTA’s highest earners had unreasonable overtime rates.
Now, the inspector general says the agency still relies too heavily on an “honor system.” The MTA implemented a few overtime reforms, but investigators say the agency still lacks important oversight.
The agency had implemented a fingerprint scanner for attendance verification. The inspector general’s office found that two more scanners were found damaged to sabotage efforts.
