United States Census Bureau
Babylon Village

The long-time mayor of Babylon Village on Long Island has died.

Ralph Scordino was 71. He was re-elected last year to a fifth four-year term as mayor.

His political career began over three decades ago, when he was first elected as village trustee.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone called Scordino a “real giant in our community” and gave him credit for revitalizing the village’s downtown region.

Desiree D'Iorio serves as the Long Island Bureau Chief for WSHU.
