Lawsuit Alleges Northport, Long Island, Students Exposed To Toxic Chemicals

A school district in Northport, Long Island, was sued last week after school officials allegedly allowed students to be exposed to toxic chemicals over the past decade.

The lawsuit filed by a parent of a former student says members of the school board were aware of the hazardous substances at Northport Middle School, but downplayed the concerns.

The lawsuit says several former students and teachers have tested high for levels of carbon monoxide and were diagnosed with different cancers.

It seeks class-action status and financial compensation to cover medical costs associated with exposure to the toxins.
