More than 200,000 students on Long Island start school today. This comes as several school districts report teachers, workers and students have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Schools in 66 districts on the Island open their doors today, with 44 more opening Wednesday thru Friday. Several districts started class last week.

Seven districts: Southold, Riverhead, Islip and Smithtown in Suffolk and Bellmore-Merrick, Carle Place and Sewanaka in Nassau have reported cases in which either students or staff have tested positive. All have said they intend to continue with plans to open the schools.

For example, at the Aquebogue Elementary School in the Riverhead District, two siblings tested positive. Teachers and students who were in class with the siblings last week will quarantine for 14 days, and the spaces they were in have been closed off for cleaning.
