Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has extended a moratorium on evictions until October. It was due to expire Friday, leaving thousands of tenants on the hook to make next month's rent, or face possible eviction.

Nearly 1,500 tenants in Connecticut who have qualified for a state program to help them pay rent during the pandemic will likely not receive anticipated relief.

The Connecticut Mirror reports the state set aside $10 million to help about 2,500 people by giving them $4,000 in assistance.

But the program has been overwhelmed by demand, and officials say that the remaining relief might not be enough to help everyone.
