New York Backslides On Coronavirus Containment

New York is slipping in its efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. That’s according to a new report from Covid Act Now, a team of researchers that tracks the spread of the coronavirus.

Just last week, New York and New Jersey were part of a group of Northeast states that Covid Act Now determined was on track to contain the virus. Now, both states are holding steady on their infection rates, but are no longer decreasing it.

The Covid Act Now researchers say only four states are currently on track to contain the virus: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont. They measure infection rate, the positive test rate, hospital capacity and contract tracing ability.

The governors of New York and New Jersey have both cited data from Covid Act Now in their efforts to contain the virus. Both states have struggled in recent weeks to enforce social distancing efforts at bars, restaurants and beaches.
