Marinas in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey are allowed to reopen for recreational use—under certain conditions intended to guard against Covid-19 transmission.
Marinas and boatyards are considered essential services under the states’ policies. But governors ordered them closed to recreational vehicles earlier this month.
They said in a joint statement over the weekend the facilities can reopen as long as they follow social distancing and sanitization protocols. The revised rules don’t allow chartered watercraft services or rentals. And restaurants at marinas and boatyards are limited to takeout or delivery.
The move doesn’t go nearly as far as some states outside the Northeast. Florida and South Carolina have already reopened some beaches, with social distancing requirements.
