Coronavirus: N.Y. Cases Top 200,000; Conn. Nears 14,000

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in the region:

Congressional delegates and the governors of New York and Connecticut continue to ask the federal government to help provide more tests and resources that are needed in order to restore society.

New York has more than 202,000 confirmed cases, with deaths over 10,800. On Long Island, there are over 47,700 cases. Westchester County has early 20,200.

Connecticut has nearly 14,000 cases — most are in Fairfield County and New Haven County. 671 people have died.

The first selectman of Sharon, Connecticut, and local residents have objected to an executive order from Governor Ned Lamont to use Sharon Health Care Center for COVID-19 nursing home patients.  

The Connecticut Department of Social Services allocated $3.8 million in federal food assistance to two of the state’s largest food banks, including the Connecticut Food Bank.
