Nassau County officials say the Veterans Services Agency is open and will be operational during the coronavirus pandemic.

The agency aims to serve the 55,000 veterans in Nassau County.

County Executive Laura Curran says they’ve already implemented programs to provide groceries to veterans in need. And they have a plan for veterans who can’t get to the grocery pick-up site.

“If you can’t get here, if you can’t ride here, volunteers are starting a new program to deliver food to your home if you are a veteran.”

The agency is also organizing transportation to medical appointments.

“They will continue to take veterans to essential medical appointments. That will continue to happen. The vehicles will be wiped down before and after each trip to keep the surfaces clean.”

Veterans and Nassau residents can also receive counseling over the phone by calling the Department of Social Services at 516-222-8255.
