Chairs placed on top of tables at a restaurant, Monday in New York. The state joined with Connecticut and New Jersey to close bars, restaurants and movie theaters starting Monday night.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy have announced that bars and restaurants in all three states are required to close.

The three governors made the announcement on a conference call. Lamont says they want to make sure residents of their states maintain social distance.

“Many of our bars and eat-in restaurants were busy just this past weekend. And that’s why we are stepping forward in a very clear and demonstrative way that we are going to work together on this on a unified and regional basis.”

Scott Dolce with the Connecticut Restaurant Association says his members appreciate that they will be allowed to continue take-out and food delivery service.

“It offers an opportunity for Connecticut residents to still be able to get food and obviously allowing these restaurants to do that in a safe manner.”

Bars that do not serve food are required to stay closed.
