The Suffolk County District Attorney has indicted the owner of a Ronkonkoma sporting goods store for selling illegal assault weapons and high capacity magazines. One of those weapons was allegedly used in a murder-suicide that killed a 2-year-old boy.
Chester Pergan pleaded not guilty to illegally selling as many 13 assault rifles.
District Attorney Tim Sini says an additional 116 weapons were illegally owned and seized.
Authorities say that Pergan was not licensed to sell the guns and that he sold gun parts without serial numbers, which means law enforcement agencies would not be able to trace them.
Authorities say that one of the guns sold was used by John Ligurgo, a Coram man who police say kidnapped his 2-year-old son in 2018 and killed him before killing himself.
