New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he wants to review the case of Keith Bush, one of the longest-running wrongful prosecutions in U.S. history.
Bush spent more than three decades behind bars for the murder of 14-year-old Sherese Watson. He was exonerated by a Suffolk judge in May after county officials found evidence that investigators mishandled evidence and intimidated witnesses.
A spokesperson for the governor tells Newsday the new Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct will look at how prosecutors handled the 1976 trial and subsequent appeals.
However, New York’s District Attorneys Association has filed suit to stop the formation of the commission.
Current Suffolk District Attorney Tim Sini did not comment to the paper.
