States That Settled With Purdue Pharma To Be Reimbursed For Legal Fees

OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma has received court approval to reimburse millions of dollars in legal fees to the states that back its proposed settlement of opioid lawsuits.

The Stamford-based company, facing thousands of lawsuits alleging it helped fuel the opioid crisis, filed for bankruptcy in September.

Purdue denies that it played down the addiction risks of its painkillers.

Purdue offered a settlement worth about $10 billion. Roughly two dozen states and the local governments have agreed to the offer.

Connecticut and New York are among the parties who oppose the company’s settlement offer. They want the Sackler family that owns Purdue to contribute more of the family’s profits.
