Scott Hapgood is a Darien resident and financial adviser. He’s charged with killing a hotel worker while on vacation in Anguilla.";

A Connecticut man has decided not to return to the Caribbean island of Anguilla to stand trial for manslaughter.

Scott Hapgood was charged with killing a hotel worker in April. Hapgood and his family say the man attacked them in their hotel room.

A spokesperson for the family says Hapgood has returned to the island three times for hearings, but says it’s become apparent there’s no chance of a fair trial.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said only the Hapgood family could fully assess the personal risks of returning to Anguilla. Blumenthal says he stands ready to help the family in any way.

Davis Dunavin loves telling stories, whether on the radio or around the campfire. He started in Missouri and ended up in Connecticut, which, he'd like to point out, is the same geographic trajectory taken by Mark Twain.
