Scott Hapgood, a U.S. financial adviser charged with killing a hotel worker while on vacation in Anguilla, at a press conference in New York in August. The case has sparked racial tensions on the Caribbean island that caters to wealthy tourists.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut was among those who came together on behalf of a Connecticut man accused of murder on the Caribbean island of Anguilla.

Scott Hapgood was charged in the slaying of a hotel worker in April. Hapgood and his family say the man attacked them in their hotel room.

Blumenthal said at the rally in Darien that he wants assurances that proceedings will be transparent and that Hapgood will be allowed to remain free on bail when he returns to Anguilla. His court date is November 11.

Hapgood spoke at the rally and offered thanks for the support from the community, elected officials and White House counsel.

President Trump tweeted earlier this month he will be looking into the case.
