Stony Brook Opens New $73 Million Children's Hospital

Stony Brook Medicine celebrates the opening of the new Children's Hospital on Thursday.

Stony Brook Medicine celebrated the opening of its new Children’s Hospital Thursday morning. 

Dr. Kenneth Kaushansky senior vice president at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook, called the new hospital Long Island’s premier facility for kids.

“Stony Brook Children's Hospital offers the most advanced pediatric specialty care in the entire region. And, with the opening of this second building project, a new state-of-the-art hospital, we will be able to expand and transform our capabilities to meet the growing health care needs of children and their families on Long Island and beyond.” 

The $73 million construction project is part of a larger $450 million expansion, which includes a new cancer center.

Stony Brook Children’s Hospital has many unique pediatric healthcare programs like the Adolescent & Young Adult HIV Care and Prevention Center and Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. 

Patient care at the new facility will begin on November 17.
