Long Island officials will host a cybersecurity summit next month to address threats like hacking and ransomware.

Security experts and law enforcement officials say they will focus on the cybersecurity threats that local governments face and how they can protect themselves.

Hackers attacked two Long Island school districts this summer with ransomware, encrypting files, then demanding money to unlock the information. The Rockville Center School District paid almost $90,000 to restore its data.

The FBI says ransomware attacks are the “fastest growing malware threat.”
