It's Official: Red Light Cameras Will Continue In Suffolk County

Suffolk County lawmakers voted along party lines Wednesday night to renew a controversial red light camera program.

Democrats say the five-year extension will help continue the reduction of drivers running red lights. Republicans wanted an investigation into safety and community concerns, and say the program is a money grab for the county.

A study of the program blames the cameras for increased collisions at those intersections.

Lawmakers plan to introduce several changes to the program.
