Report Finds MTA Botched Overtime For Over A Decade

Paid consultants found that the MTA has mismanaged overtime costs for more than a decade. That’s despite warnings from auditors and watchdog groups.

The MTA commissioned consultants to look into excessive overtime costs.

The consultants submitted their report this week. They found the excess overtime in the MTA and Long Island Rail Road was a result of an outdated system that couldn’t accurately monitor timekeeping and worker attendance.

They say this kept the MTA from having a culture of accountability.

The report blames MTA leadership for failing to address these issues that have existed for years.

The MTA has begun to implement an automated timekeeping system with fingerprint scanners to address the overtime problem. Union leaders say the limited system will create additional overtime costs.
